West D-street Greenway in Springfield.

We hiked West on Pre's trail, then further NW along canoe channel (still Pre's Trail) to a pond. Pine Siskins and Red Crossbills were some highlights. Also seen were Goldfinches, Ring-Necked Ducks, Gadwalls, Hooded Mergansers  and more …

BOGS bird walk; Finley Wildlife Refuge Thursday Feb 14, 2013

It was the first bright Sunny day we've had for a bird walk in quite a while. Bluebirds, an immature Golden Eagle, and a Peregrin Falcon were SOME of the highlights. Massive numbers of Geese and scenic views

were enjoyed too.

BOGS bird walk;

Fern Ridge, Feb 28, 2013

We had a nice walk along the Royal Avenue trail at Fern Ridge reservoir. Our group was quite large, with nearly a half-dozen newcomers. Welcome to all the new folks! At first there was a very light spattering of rain drops but that stopped and the clouds lightened up quite a bit for most of the walk. Some highlights were a NORTHERN SHRIKE and a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK and flocks of DUNLIN. We also saw four adult Bald Eagles, though quite far away

BOGS bird-walk; Stewart Pond,

March 14, 2013

We had a great turnout for this fair-weather-day walk. Our group stretched out over quite a distance for most of the walk. We were fortunate to have quite a few folks

with exceptional birding skills; our leader Steve, Floyd, Jo Van Hippel, Rick Ahrens

Janet Naylor... and there were others whose names I do not know and maybe some who were walking with other people out of earshot. The birding was a little slow at times but pretty steady.

An Anna's Hummingbird got a lot of attention, as did the Cackling Geese and Green-Winged Teal. A Northern Flicker (red morph male) also got a lot of attention at the end of our walk. Joseph contributed several nice pictures to this album, including an outstanding close-up of a male Green-Winged Teal.  His pictures are noted in the captions.
