Here is a place up in Linn County where some of us have gone to see Short-eared Owls which winter in the valley. This field was especially good in Feb 2014, and I made half a dozen trips there, taking different people with me each time.
During the Summer, some of us informally continue to go birding. Summer 2014, we went EVERY week! We go to some new places too. Here is part of our group at Hileman County Park, scoping a old flood channel for Kingfishers.
Rough-legged Hawks are more common in Linn County, at Finley Refuge for example. They only winter in the valley.
Their breeding grounds being very far north.
The Western Meadowlark is the State bird of Oregon. At Meadowlark Prairie in West Eugene, they can be found year around. We saw flocks of them in February 2015, when this photo was taken
